Skippy The Hypocrite

For months, our good friend Skippy spent his time badgering former county councilman Jeff Morrison, suggesting he was unfit for office because he had admitted he was an alcoholic, albeit a recovering one.

One of the points behind Skippy's rants was that someone that drinks like that shouldn't be placed in a position of public trust, and Skippy absolutely went nuts when Morrison was appointed (for a short term) as prosecuting attorney in St. Peters. Let's keep in mind, of course, that the prosecuting attorney is the one that pursues traffic and city ordinance violations within the city.

Now comes interesting news ... Skippy has spent his time and resources setting up a new association in Missouri -- complete with Ethics Commission filings, PAC and all. The new association, Missouri Smart Growth PAC, has been given seed money from the Adolphus Busch clan in order, for the most part, to elect county councilman Joe Brazil to the state senate over incumbent Scott Rupp in the republican primary.

There are a few things that need to be said, here -- Joe is a nice guy and has pulled his weight on the county council on behalf of his constituents. But to suggest that "smart growth" is the reason to put someone in the senate is ridiculous! Planning issues such as these belong in city and county councils and boards of aldermen!

Skippy's association is also endorsing many candidates in upcoming elections, including sheriff of St. Charles county, republican (but not democrat) central committee members in St. Charles county and a candidate for Collector in Lincoln county. What these positions have to do with smart growth is beyond me -- especially in Lincoln county, which doesn't even have planning and zoning.

Here's where the fun begins. The Source, a blog out of the other side of the state, has uncovered some interesting information about Skippy's senate candidate. The more people post, the more we learn.

I like Brazil, but with this kind of history, one has to wonder if Skippy will now stick to his guns, or if he will bail from his campaign to own a senator. Time for Skippy to put up or shut up. What exactly do you stand for, anyway?

In all reality, I believe that Rupp's numbers, not to mention his extreme fundraising lead, will carry him well over Brazil next week. Then Brazil will run for re-election to his county council seat.

The real question that comes up is -- will Rupp allow Brazil to run unopposed for the county council?

Stay tuned!

Never Fear -- I'm Still Alive!

Between lots and lots of work and near-record heat and killer storms, I'm still in one piece and realize it's been a while since I've posted.

Don't worry, though. I'm still paying keen attention to the happenings around here and have plenty to add once I find the time to present my musings.

Between O'Fallon city politics, the battle cries of "Halliburton, Halliburton, Halliburton" from the democrats and Skippy at it again, you can rest assured that there will be plenty coming prior to the August election!
