Mayor Brown Under Arrest by Feds

Although it doesn't have bearing for November elections, we have learned that Shawn Brown, mayor of St. Peters, was arrested this morning by the FBI for allegedly demanding kickbacks from the company that is wishing to put the infamous "red-light cameras" in areas throughout the city.

There aren't too many details out yet, but it is alleged that Brown threatened to veto the legislation if he didn't receive a payment in the amount of a measly $2,700.

I would like to think that Mayor Shawn knows better than to throw his reputation and career out the window for $2,700.

More on this as it unfolds.

Bennett/Henke to Lead County Republican Party

This press release was issued today:

St. Charles – During the reorganization meeting of the St. Charles County Republican Central Committee, Jon Bennett was elected to serve as the new chairman, and Penny Henke was elected to serve as vice-chairman.

Bennett, who was elected this month to the committee, served in the Missouri House of Representatives from 1995-2001, and on the Francis Howell School Board from 2001-2004. He has also served as president of the county Young Republicans and as a board member of the Pachyderm Club. “It is an honor to receive the support of my colleagues on the committee to help lead the Republican Party in my home county, and this committee pledges to work hard to assist republican candidates that are on the ballot in the November election and beyond,” said Bennett.

“The committee has some new ammunition that was never available before, in that we have two former legislators, myself and Senator Fred Dyer, and two current legislators, Reps. Sally Faith and Cynthia Davis, to assist in coordinating efforts between the state party in Jefferson City and the local party here in St. Charles County,” Bennett added.

Henke, a committeewoman since 1986, has held various positions within the Republican Party, including state committeewoman since 2004, and the local and national treasurer of the Pachyderm Club. Henke said, “I am deeply honored to receive the support of the committee members and will work hard to achieve our goal of electing republican candidates in November.”

The committee will meet again to determine legislative, senatorial, congressional and judicial committee structures over the course of the next few weeks.

The local phone number for the St. Charles County Republican Central Committee is (636) 949-5555.

The Exploding Gator Population

A recent news article by the Associated Press reports that there is one alligator in Florida for every nine residents (approximately 18,000,000 people).

So, with two million alligators running loose in Florida, it can tend to make tourists a bit uneasy.

But not a bad place to be if you make boots, belts or luggage!

Mayor Dan Nieland?

Rumor has it that Dan Nieland, former St. Charles City Councilman, will throw his hat into the ring to take on mayor Patti York next year.

Nieland, who served on the council as an ally of Mayor York, is an admissions counselor for Lindenwood University.

We'll keep our eyes on this one.
